Knoxville’s “First Friday” went down this past weekend and we had the pleasure of doing some gallery hoping. Good art. Good drinks. Good friends.
Our night started off at Litton’s for a Tweetup. Side note: Litton’s has the most amazing burgers in Knoxville. Period. It was here that Amanda was presented with this awesome necklace pendent from the very talented Sassy Glass Studio.

Stuffed, we stopped by ALM Photo’s Studio for a moment. I fell in love with the old, wooden door they had. Ive been trying to find an old door like this in order to make a desk out of it.

I have no idea what this was, but I liked it. Very industrial.
Shortly there after, we arrived at our first destination; 2 Many Pixels Gallery. On display was the work of Mark Malloy. At first glance, the photographs look fairly simple. However, they are quite complex. These photographs were not taken with a digital camera like many would think, but with film. As you scroll through them, keep in mind that the blur for each image was set by hand using a technique that mis-aligns the lenses within the camera.

I found his Progeny series quite intriguing as well. Its a documentation of students on the final day of a semester-long mentorship. At a point where each is shell-shocked from months of intense study. In the 24-hour lull between the end of the coursework and the start of final exams, Mark seaked to capture what, in many cases, will be their final moment together as a student and mentor.
