Review: Digsby (Get a free activation code)

Over the last few years online communication has become increasingly crowded. It seems that a new instant messenger or social media site blooms every day. I don’t know about you guys, but I find it very difficult to keep up with them all; especially the instant messengers. And for a while, I didn’t even bother due to the amount of resources required to run all 230482niner2903 instant messenger clients. I was tired of my screen looking similar to this and having to sacrifice computer power just to stay in contact. Thankfully, I’ve come across a client that has solved my messenger, email and social media woes; Digsby.
Digsby is an easy to use, FREE, IM client that helps you organize your IMs, email and social media sites under one application! It lets you log in to your existing AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber accounts all into one organized client! But that’s just the beginning. You can also add your email (POP3, Yahoo, Gmail, etc) and social network accounts (Myspace, Facebook, etc) which I love! For example, I have two Myspace accounts; Studio Rhoad & Rhoad Racing. I am able to sync Digsby with both accounts yet keep them completely separate of one another. My login and passwords are saved into the program so when I click on the myspace link to view my profile it automatically logs me in despite which account I use. So if I see that I have a new friend request and I click on the link, it takes me directly to that account’s friend request page without having to login each time. This saves a great deal of time and aggravation.
For all you Facebook fanatics, they certainly didn’t forget about you. Their custom widget can be embedded not only on Facebook but any website and/or blog.
One thing that I love about Gmail is being able to go back in the archives and reread old conversations. Well guess what? That’s right…. Digsby does that too.
Yet another great feature about this program is that it is not intrusive nor does it require you to maximize the chat window in order to reply. With popups enabled, a small popup will emerge from the bottom of your screen when you receive a message. At the bottom of the popup is a text box which you can write and send a reply from. Beautiful.
As I mentioned before, a lot of us use multiple accounts and messaging programs. Thus most of us have the same person/contact on more than one, or all, of our other messaging programs. For example, I have Amanda on AIM, MSN, Yahoo among others. Well this program gives you the power to take those multiple contacts from various messaging clients and combined them into one.
All in all, Im really enjoying this software and find it extremely beneficial with lots of features despite the some-what cheesy skins. However, as of right now, Digsby is in private beta. But don’t worry, if you like to give it a try, just subscribe to my RSS feed via email and I’ll send you the referral code.
If you are already using Digsby, post a comment with your opinion. What do you like about? What don’t you like about it?
