Income Report: Feb. 2008

Written by Studio Rhoad on March 3rd, 2008

For those of you who are into blogging, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ve seen John Chow’s Blog Income Report(s). Although my income report will be couch-change compared to his, I’d still like to get a basis for what my blogs are earning which I’ll use for comparison/reference later on. Not to mention it’ll show you guys what resources and methods work along with what doesn’t work. So, lets get to it.

<read more>

I started my blogging adventure several months ago and have spent 90% of my time designing and building the blogs. However, I did manage to monetize most of them. Here is how the stats break down:

Widget Bucks: $27.21
Here’s the thing about Widget Bucks. As of right now, we’ve “earned”$27.21 but thats not really the case. Widget Bucks, grants new accounts a $25 sign on bonus. So, essentially, we’ve only made $2.21 from them. For the sake or argument, I’ll include the sign-on bonus.

Google Adsense: $8.59
Adsense, started off really well. We made most of the revenue in one night from broadcasting on Justin.tv. Then out of no where, it just stopped. We haven’t made a single dime from Adsense since then and, frankly, we are not sure why.

TTZ Media: $4.65
TTZ Media is the advertising network for John Chow. I really like this network, however, its main focus is generated around electronics and such. The blogs I run (see list below) are not necessarily within this scope.

BidVertiser: $0.60
Bidvertiser, a CPC ad network that competes with Google AdSense. It main advantage over AdSense is its low $10 payout. You only need to make $10 in order to be paid. Big publishers wouldn’t care about this but for many small blogs that are still waiting to hit that magic $100 Google payout level, getting pay at a lower level is quite attractive.

AdBrite: $0.06
The famous “Show me the money” quote does not apply here ;)

Total Income: $40.71 (HaHa… yea, I won’t be buying that Porche anytime soon)
(Feb 1st ‘08 - March 2nd ‘08)

Additionally, there are other avenues that I use to make money online such as Send Earnings and Inbox Dollars which have accumulated about $30 between Amanda and I’s accounts. In short those two companies pay you to read emails with advertising in them and to take surveys. Each day I receive 2 emails (one from each company) with an ad in it. I click on the link at the bottom of the ad and Im credited for reading the email; thus getting paid. The payments for reading each email is about $.05. Obviously that doesn’t like much, but the secret is to get others to sign up for the program as well. When you refer someone who signs up, you earn a percentage of everything they earn. The referee doesn’t lose any money and you gain more money than what you would doing it by your self. Therefore, I set up an account and then referrered Amanda to it. So we’ll get a little more. If you are interested in signing up for it (its free btw), here are my refferal links. Just click on them and follow the instructions:
Send Earnings
Inbox Dollars

Its been said that making money via blogging isn’t an easy task. Im finding that to be very true. And a lot of factors come into play with blogging. The main thing is to obtain viewers and subscribers. For example, most of the ads on FemaleRacingNews.com are CPM (cost per thousand impressions), so in order to make money, a lot of people need to visit the site. As of right now, FRN is only pulling in about 200 unique hits a day. Thats doubled what it was a month ago but still FAR from where it needs to be. This goes for all the blogs that Im running. Furthermore, most professional bloggers make their living from affiliate referrals. This means that people sign up with companies and use the bloggers name as a refferal, thus, the blogger gets a cut of everything the new blogger makes. The more refferals you obtain, the more you make. *hint*hint* ;)

In short… its slow going right now. But those who know me, know that I always have something up my sleeve. I plan to finish up the redesigns for FemaleRacingNews.com plus launch 2 - 3 more blogs within the next month. With some luck, next month’s income report will be better.
