Google+ has been all the rage in regards to Social Networks for the last few days. Im going to save judgement until I see how it pans out, however, its off a to a good start. If anything can be labeled as a “Facebook-killer” its this. Perhaps not now, but give it two years and it’ll be giving Facebook a run for its money. That said, if you are on Google Plus, feel free to add me. If you are still looking for an invite, let me know. I should have a few invites left; assuming Google will accept them. In the meantime, here’s my delima with Google+ as of right now….
Keeping in mind that it is only a few days old, but should I create a separate profile for myself and my business? When it comes to Facebook and Twitter, almost all of us have separate accounts. Google+ has blurred the line of this requirement though. Now that sharing with specific groups/circles is so easy, I don’t have to worry about spamming the feeds of people who don’t necessarily care about the subject matter. Another words, I can publish automotive information to my “Automotive Circle” and publish my the latest Typography article to my “Creative Circle” and no one is the wiser. Sounds like a pretty cut and dry argument, right? Not so fast. When it comes to businesses, branding is a huge deal and very important. Sure I can put a few “Studio Rhoad” annotations in key locations, but is that enough?
What are your thoughts on this? Should you have a business profile and a personal profile? Or, perhaps, its too soon to tell. Maybe Google Plus will follow the same route as Buzz and disappear in a few months. Who knows. Let me know what you guys think below.
EDIT: It seems that business profiles for Google+ are in the works. Google+ project manager, Christian Oestlien posted this on his profile shortly after this article was published.
